Taeniolethrinops furcicauda "Chimwalani"


Taeniolethrinops furcicauda is living in sandy environments, on depths of 5 up to 40 meters. Particularly, they can be found along the southeastern coasts of the lake between Lumessi and Luwala Reef but they probably can be found on more places around the lake. These examples were found in the neighbourhood of Chimwalani Reef.


In the lake the males of these species can grow to 21 cm, females grow to about 17 cm.


Taeniolethrinops furcicauda is mainly feeding itself with grubs of insects which they jigg out of the sand. You can best keep this species with multiple females in a large tank with a lot of swimming space. It`s a quiet, peaceful cichlid which can be hold best with other quiet species from equal environments, mbunas are generally too aggresive.


In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix.
